The background drawings show our old church.
As you can see, it sat on a hill above what was once
the Barrackville Train Station.

Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors! --Luke 2:14

Bethesda Baptist Church was established in 1840 under the leadership of Rev. A.J. Garrett, a missionary of the General Association of Virginia. Rev. Garrett befriended a local resident of Barrackville and began holding religious services in his home.

In 1841, the group adopted the name "Bethesda Baptist Church," and in 1842 the congregation erected its first building, which can be seen in our background graphic.

As God grew the church, a larger building was constructed in 1876, and the church moved to its present location at 502 Pike St. in 1921. Since its inception, God in his grace has allowed Bethesda to grow and minister to the community.
